Preston vs Ipswich Predictions

It’s hard to look past Preston here with Ipswich looking really poor and the Lancashire club enjoying another strong campaign, particularly at home where they’ve bagged some impressive recent wins. They look capable of netting at least a couple of goals here.

Simon Grayson’s Preston had a reputation for being fairly boring to watch last season when their games rarely produced many goals at either end. The sale of Joe Garner in the summer made you wonder where the goals would come from this season but as it’s turned out, they’ve had little trouble finding the net. Preston have scored at least once in all of their last 11 matches and they’ve played the likes of Arsenal, Brighton, Leeds, Villa and Sheffield Wednesday (twice) during that run.

If they are finding the net against pretty strong defensive sides, you’d certainly back them to cause an unconvincing Ipswich side problems. They average 1.43 goals per game at home this term, a figure that has increased as the season has progressed and they should take great confidence from their 2-0 win at home to Brighton last time out at Deepdale, not to mention their ability to fight back for a 2-2 draw at Villa Park last weekend.

Jordan Hugill bagged an impressive brace in that game and looks like a player on the very top of his game right now. He now has 7 Championship goals this term to his name and backing Hugill to score anytime at 21/10 looks a shrewd bet here.

Ipswich’s recent performances, particularly away, also point towards this being a good day for the hosts. The Tractor Boys have lost 5 of their last 6 away matches and that includes defeat at non-league Lincoln in the FA Cup. They average just 0.85 points per game away from home in the Championship and have lost 62% of their away league fixtures this term, which helps explain why they are in the bottom half.

They’ve conceded exactly twice in all of their last 5 away Championship games and they haven’t been particularly difficult fixtures either, with 4 of the 5 against sides struggling or not in great form. Preston are playing well and will fancy they can exploit Ipswich’s defensive deficiencies so backing Preston Over 1.5 Team Goals at 11/10 looks a tempting bet here.
