Millwall to Win

Reason for tip

Millwall are starting life without Gary Rowett in charge and they can kick off their new era with a win. The Lions have a great record against Preston with six wins and no defeats in the last eight meetings – including both league games last season – and North End are out of form after losing their last three, so the visitors as underdogs appeal here.

Preston vs Millwall Predictions

  • Millwall have won six of their last eight games with Preston – including both meetings last season.
  • Preston are yet to keep a clean sheet at home.
  • The Lions have lost just one of their five away games.

Lions head to Deepdale for early Championship game

Millwall begin life without Gary Rowett in charge in the early Championship game on Saturday as they make the trip to Preston.

Rowett left his post as manager by mutual consent early this week, with assistant Andy Barrett stepping up to take charge on an interim basis.

Preston sit third in the table but they have lost their last three games and have struggled in recent years against the visitors.

Millwall appeal as underdogs

North End may be 12 places above Millwall in the table but they’re only five points better off, and as the underdogs the Southeast London team hold real appeal here.

It is always tough to predict how a team may respond to losing a manager but Millwall are unlikely to make drastic changes for this game under Barrett – and we may see a positive reaction from the players.

The Lions have also been a bit of a bogey team for Preston in recent years. They won both league games by two-goal margins last year and are unbeaten in eight against their hosts, winning six of those games.

Goals could be in short supply

This may not be a particularly high-scoring game and a hard-fought 1-0 win for the visitors is the correct score prediction.

Preston do have a formidable home record but with just one point to show from their last four games overall they’re out of form. The hosts are yet to keep a clean sheet at home this season, while Millwall have three in five games on their traveks and one goal may be enough for the visitors to snatch a win.
