PSV Reserves vs RKC Waalwijk Predictions

With the last four encounters between these sides producing a whopping 23 goals including a 3-5 victory for Jong PSV in November’s reverse fixture, we should be set for a thrilling clash at De Herdgang this Friday. Jong PSV are Eerste Divisie top scorers this term but will be looking to rediscover their touch in front of goal after being held to a 0-0 stalemate at Jong AZ last week, whilst RKC are gunning for their third straight win following a 2-1 success over Helmond Sport in Waalwijk.

Jong PSV’s strong run of form at the start of 2019 means they look booked to finish at least 5th again this term as they currently hold a six point advantage over 6th placed RKC with eight games of the regular season to go, whilst they are just one point adrift of 4th placed Den Bosch.

But it’s been a sticky couple of weeks for Dennis Haar’s young charges, as after a 3-1 defeat at Cambuur on match day 29; they were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw away to strugglers Jong AZ at AFAS Stadion on Monday.

Those results took Jong’s overall record on the road this season to a fairly average six wins, five draws and four defeats from 15 outings and they’ll be glad of their return to Eindhoven this Friday evening where they have generally performed much better throughout the campaign.

Jong have amassed 28 points from their 15 home matches (won eight, drawn four, lost three) and they were comfortable 3-1 winners over Jong Utrecht last time out at De Herdgang.  Nonetheless, the likes of Roda JC and MVV have both picked up draws in Eindhoven in recent weeks, so RKC will feel confident that they can do the same considering they have now jumped above those sides in the league standings.

And it has been quite a remarkable turnaround for RKC this term – they were second bottom with just 28 points on the board at this stage last season but are now 6th in the table and 17 points better off.

Things really began to shift for Fred Grim’s men from mid-November onwards and if you look at their record from that point, the Waalwijk outfit have racked up 34 points from 17 games – a ratio well on a par with the top teams in the division.

RKC travel to Eindhoven in good spirits after consecutive victories against MVV (1-4) and Helmond Sport (2-1) and they have won five from their last six on the road in total, with their only defeat in that run coming against 2nd placed Sparta Rotterdam (2-1) on match day 27.

So it’s extremely tempting to back the visitors here at around the 11/5 mark however we feel the right play is to back over 2.5 goals and both teams to score.

That’s been the case in eight of Jong’s last nine at home and in five of RKC’s last six away, whilst this bet would have landed in all but one of the previous nine meetings between the teams.

A three point stake is recommended, but we’re also siding with RKC in the correct score market and tipping up a 2-3 away triumph at a huge price.
