PSV Reserves vs Telstar Predictions

It’s been an underwhelming campaign overall for Telstar, but the IJmuiden outfit can be proud of their form since the beginning of March. Mike Snoei’s side have won seven of their last 11 league games, and they will be seeking to end the season on a high this Friday at De Herdgang against a Jong PSV side who they have not beaten in 11 previous encounters.

Telstar began the campaign as likely Play-off candidates after their 6th place finish last term, but a repeat has never been on the cards this time around despite a rapid resurgence over the last two months.

The IJmuiden outfit only lost nine matches throughout 2017/18 but had already lost 11 by the midway stage this season, and they kicked off 2019 with a seven game winless run which included four further defeats.

Telstar have consequently been scrapping about in the bottom five or six since kicking off on 17th August, and although they have turned things around of late with seven wins from 11, their riposte was always going to come too late to challenge for a Play-off place.

With all chance of a top ten finish gone on match day 36 despite a brilliant 4-0 victory at home to Roda JC, Telstar’s efforts rather petered out last Friday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by struggling Volendam at IJmuiden Stadion.

It leaves a question mark surrounding how fired up Snoei’s side will be for this Friday’s curtain closer against Jong PSV, and it remains to be seen whether Telstar’s recent upturn in form will be enough to save their manager in the summer.

We think that Telstar will be keen to finish strongly here though, particularly as they have a wretched record against Jong PSV. They have yet to win against their opponents in 11 previous meetings, so there should be plenty of pride on the line at De Herdgang.

Jong PSV have comfortably been the best reserve side in the second tier this term following Jong Ajax’s title triumph in 2017/18, and they look set to replicate the 5th place which they achieved last season.

Dennis Haar’s charges have been quite inconsistent of late though with three wins and four defeats from their last seven outings, though three of those victories have been at home including a 2-0 success over 2nd placed Sparta last time out.

If the hosts bring their best as they did against the Rotterdam outfit, they should be too strong for Telstar here, who have lost their last two games on the road without scoring.

We think that there will be goals on both sides here though – December’s reverse contest ended 2-4 in Jong’s favour and we’re predicting a similar outcome here. Backing Jong PSV to win with both teams to score makes lots of appeal at a decent price, and we’re also forecasting a 3-1 correct score.
