PSV vs Groningen Predictions

PSV drew 1-1 at home to title rivals Ajax at the weekend and while that saw an end to their winning run, Wednesday nights’ hosts remain unbeaten in their last eleven matches in all competitions. Visiting Groningen claimed all three points at home to Zwolle via a 2-0 win last time out, ending their four-game winless run, but don’t have the best of records against PSV and would likely take a point if you offered it to them right now.

All of the stats point towards a PSV win, with at least three goals being scored and we believe Groningen will get on the scoreboard on Wednesday but won’t leave Eindhoven with anything to show for their efforts and here’s why:

PSV are unbeaten in their last eleven meetings with Groningen and have won the pairs’ last two head to heads. Over 2.5 goals have been produced in three of the duos’ last four encounters and both teams have scored in four of the pairs’ last five meetings, which is why we’ve backed a home win with over 2.5 goals scored and a final scoreline of 3-1.

The form of both clubs heading into the match also suggests that the hosts will claim all three points on Wednesday, as PSV have won five of their last six matches and Groningen have lost three of their last six games. The performances of both clubs during the last month or so adds weight to our prediction of at least three goals being scored as over 2.5 goals have been produced in five of PSV’s last six and three of Groningen’s last five matches. Both teams scored in three of PSV’s and three of Groningen’s last six matches, and we’re backing both teams to get on the score-sheet on Wednesday but don’t believe Groningen will take anything from the match.

We’re confident that PSV will win and over 2.5 goals will be produced on Wednesday night and have predicted a final scoreline of 3-1. The hosts are in great form and look really strong at home, while their guests have lost more matches than they have won of late. Groningen don’t have a good record against PSV and, despite a couple of draws in Eindhoven over the last few years, we’re backing a comfortable win for PSV on Wednesday.
