RB Leipzig to Win and Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

RB Leipzig have won four of their last five in the Bundesliga and thrashed 17th-placed Cologne 5-1 in their last match. Meanwhile, Mainz have lost each of their last four away league games and were crushed 8-1 at Bayern Munich earlier this month. At least three goals have been scored in Mainz’s last three away games.

RB Leipzig 3-1

Reason for tip

RB Leipzig are averaging just under 2.5 goals per home game this season and should have no difficulty putting three past a Mainz defence that shipped eight in Munich and three in Stuttgart. Bo Henriksen’s side have scored one goal in four of their last five away games, including in Munich, Leverkusen and Dortmund.

RB Leipzig vs FSV Mainz 05 Predictions

  • RB Leipzig have won four of their last five in the Bundesliga and each of the last three
  • Mainz have lost each of their last four away league games and were crushed 8-1 at Bayern Munich earlier this month
  • At least three goals have been scored in Mainz’s last three away games

Red Bulls on the charge

RB Leipzig should waste no time in putting Mainz to the sword when they resume Bundesliga action on Saturday afternoon. Marco Rose’s side were in red-hot form before the international break, winning four of their last six games and only failing to beat Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

A Xavi Simons-inspired Red Bulls thrashed Cologne 5-1 away in their last game and a similar result could be on the cards when they face the team one place above and one point better off than the Billy Goats in the standings.

Mainz are now a shadow of the team that beat Leipzig 3-0 in this fixture almost exactly a year ago on their way to a top-half finish. That remains their last Bundesliga away victory with eight draws and nine defeats on their road record since.

Leipzig won’t turn off the taps

Bo Henriksen’s side capitulated in an 8-1 defeat at Bayern Munich in their last away fixture and, although they subsequently salvaged some pride with a 2-0 home win over Bochum, this is not a game they can realistically expect to take a point from in their current state.

The Red Bulls have won each of their last three home games by the same 2-0 scoreline — which suggests they may turn off the taps when the result is secure. But that is not the case at all and this match should provide their forwards with plenty of chances to grab some extra goal bonuses.

Mainz have lost each of their last three games with over 2.5 goals scored and that is the main recommendation for this contest with a 3-1 correct score taken as the visitors have scored in four of their last five away games, including in Munich, Leverkusen and Dortmund.
