      Real Betis vs Rennes Predictions

Rennes looked comfortable leading 3-1 at half time last week against Betis but they really capitulated in the second half, allowing Betis to score twice and take three away goals back to the Benito Villamarín. They face an uphill task and suffered another poor result at the weekend which won’t help their case.

After surrendering their lead to Betis, they went into their match with Reims at the weekend on pretty low spirits and allowed the newly promoted club to beat them 2-0, despite Rennes dominating 65% of the possession. Rennes had so much of the ball but only managed one shot on target, which really shows how much their heads have dropped since the Betis game.

They were on a good run of four wins in five matches before the 3-3 draw but they really looked out of sorts at the weekend and don’t appear to have the right mentality ahead of this game. Rennes have lost three of their last four away games, which should hold them back but do Betis have enough to progress to the next round?

Betis entered last week’s game with quite poor form but they have managed to slightly mend that after they drew 1-1 with high flying Alaves at the weekend. They had 66% of the possession and managed nine shots on target so it was really a game they should have won but they will be looking to put those wrongs right against Rennes.

Betis have been very good at keeping the ball this season but they very rarely do much with it as while they kept a whopping 75% of the possession against Rennes last week, they still conceded three times. Their weekend game was no different but with them playing at home in this fixture and with them having three away goals, they should enter this game as favourites. They haven’t won any of their last four matches but they just need to keep the match level to progress, which will definitely suit this possession based side.

Betis go into this game in the ascendancy with three away goals and with their amazing home record of just one loss in their last 14 games at the Benito Villamarín, they should be able to see this round out. Three of their last four matches have ended as draws and with such high stakes over this game, we feel neither side will want to show their hand, which should see the game finish level. Both sides had their chances in the previous match and with Betis conceding in ten of their last eleven matches, Rennes should get on the score-sheet as they’re chasing this match. However, we’re also backing Betis to score as they had nine shots on target last week and should dominate the possession at home here. Neither side has been playing brilliantly lately and with both sides desperate to progress to the next round of a competition they’re not known for excelling in, we’re expecting this one to finish level, but not to the high-scoring degree of last week. We’re backing a 1-1 draw which would see Betis progress on away goals. Both teams to score also looks a good bet after last week’s flurry of goals.
