Red Bull Salzburg vs Rosenborg Predictions

Salzburg head into game week three of the Europa League group stages top of the table with two wins from their two games. They were involved in a 5 goal classic in Germany as they beat Red Bull Leipzig 3-2, thanks to an 89th minute winner from Gulbrandsen, then comfortably accounted for Celtic 3-1 at home in their 2nd game despite going 1-0 down early in that game.

Rosenborg have had a poor start to the group stages, they have lost both of their opening Europa League group games. Game week 1 they lost 1-0 away to Celtic to an 87th minute Leigh Griffiths strike and they followed that up with a 3-1 home loss to RB Leipzig, going 3-0 down in that one before scoring a late consolation.

Domestically Salzburg are in superb form, they have won 10 and drawn 1 of their 11 Austrian Bundesliga games this season, placing them 10 points clear at the top of the table after just 11 games. This is a huge advantage for them as they can put everything into their Europa League campaign knowing they can’t be caught at the top for a long time. Israeli forward Moanes Dabour has been on fire this season for Salzburg. He has scored 7 in 8 starts in the league and netted 7 goals in 6 European games so far this season.

Rosenborg are much further through their domestic campaign than their opponents but they also sit top of the table. They are two points clear of second placed Brann after 26 rounds and with top spot earning entry into the Champions League qualifiers we can’t see Rosenborg going all out in this one, given they are bottom of the table after two games.

The bookmakers are clued up on this game, pricing the home side as very heavy odds on, however Salzburg have found the net 3 times in both Europa League games so far and we think the odds on them to do the same again here look decent. On the correct score front we are seeing plenty of goals in this game and it all depends on what Rosenborg does. We feel that the away side are not going to go into this game with the same intensity as they would in the league as they look to make sure they have everyone fit for their domestic title challenge. For that reason we are backing Salzburg 4-0 here.
