Roma vs Lyon Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Roma’s trip to France didn’t exactly go to plan last week. The hosts opened the scoring inside of eight minutes but Roma fought back and went into the break 2-1 ahead. However, goals from Tolisso, Fekir, and Lacazette gave Lyon an emphatic 4-2 victory at full time and put them in a commanding position heading into the second leg.

This was Roma’s third consecutive defeat in all competitions, but they managed to put an end to their winless ways on Sunday with a 3-0 win at Palermo. This makes it seven wins and four defeats in their last 11 matches in all competitions.

At home they have managed to lose their last two matches, but prior to that they had won 11 on the bounce at the Stadio Olimpico and were unbeaten since a 3-0 loss to Porto in Champions League qualification.

Lyon followed their midweek victory up with an excellent 4-0 win at home to Toulouse, with the show being stolen by a phenomenal goal from the halfway line by a resurgent Memphis Depay.

This extends Lyon’s unbeaten streak to seven matches in all competitions, six of which have been victories. Prior to that they were in a bit of a slump, but the fact they have scored 29 goals in their last seven games clearly shows they are over the hump.

Away from home they have only won one of their last six matches though, and four of those have ended in defeat. Now they are coming face to face with a Roma side who have, overall, been sensational at home this season.

With Roma already having two away goals I think the visitors will try and soak up the Italians’ pressure, but with two defenders missing through injury and a relatively poor defensive record as it is, this is unlikely to work for them. Odds of 7/10 for a Roma Win look decent value given their necessity to go for it here, but I think keeping Lyon out and overturning the deficit is a step too far so I’m backing a 2-1 correct score predictions at 15/2 as well.
