San Jose Earthquakes vs Columbus Crew Predictions

SJ Earthquakes could move as high as second in the Western Conference table if they get a positive result at home to Columbus Crew on Sunday and scores elsewhere go in their favour. The visitors sit tenth in the Eastern Conference but head into Sunday’s match unbeaten in their last three matches and should prove difficult for their hosts to beat.

SJ Earthquakes took command of their last match at home to Colorado Rapids after a second-minute own goal was followed up by a strike from Qazaishvili in the thirty-fourth minute to put the hosts 2-0 up at the interval. The game proved much closer in the second half but a third goal from Salinas ended any faint hopes of a comeback for the visitors, though Colorado Rapids did score a consolation goal two minutes from time to make the final scoreline 3-1.

Columbus Crew were away at New York RB last time out where they went behind in the fifteenth minute, only to equalise through Argudo less than sixty-seconds later. The teams went in level at the break but Columbus Crew took the lead a minute after the restart through Santos. A penalty just after the hour mark saw New York RB draw level but Santos’ second goal of the game six minutes from time saw Columbus Crew edge this five-goal thriller 3-2.

Recent encounters between these two teams and both side’s form and performances in recent weeks suggest that both teams will score on Sunday and that the most likely result is a draw. Both teams have scored in five of the last seven meetings between these two clubs and three of those seven encounters have ended in score draws. Both teams have scored in five of SJ Earthquakes’ last six and four of Columbus Crew’s last five matches. SJ Earthquakes are unbeaten in their last four MLS games and Columbus Crew haven’t lost any of their last three league games, which is why we’re backing a 2-2 draw between the pair this weekend.

Wondolowski top scores for the hosts this season with nine MLS goals, while Santos and Zardes have both notched seven league goals apiece for Columbus Crew. We’re confident that both teams will score on Sunday and have predicted a final scoreline of 2-2. Both teams head into the match in the midst of unbeaten runs in the MLS, neither side have kept many clean sheets during July, and when the two clubs lock horns, goals are usually scored at both ends of the pitch.
