San Jose Earthquakes vs FC Cincinnati Predictions

SJ Earthquakes appear to be on the rise after they picked up two wins and two draws from their last five matches, but their guests this weekend, Cincinnati, are heading in the other direction after losing five of their last six in the MLS. Both teams failed to score last weekend, but we’re confident that Sunday’s game will produced much more goalmouth action at both ends of the pitch.

SJ Earthquakes could, and probably should, have won at Dallas last weekend, after the visitors had 60% of the overall possession, eight corners to the hosts one, and had more shots during the ninety minutes. However, neither side managed to carve out an opening goal and both teams had to settle for a share of the spoils. Cincinnati put in a shift away at in form Philadelphia Union in midweek, but two second half goals saw the visitors lose and fail to score for the fourth successive match.

We’re expecting a much more open and attacking ninety minutes from both teams on Sunday, and the results of both clubs over the last month or so suggest that SJ Earthquakes are the big favourites to claim all three points and that over 2.5 goals could be scored. SJ Earthquakes have only lost two of their last six matches, while Cincinnati have lost five of their last six. Both teams have scored in three of SJ Earthquakes last four matches and five of the hosts’ last six matches have produced over 2.5 goals, while Cincinnati haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last six matches. SJ Earthquakes’ have won their last two home games, and Cincinnati have lost four of their six away games this season, which is why we’re backing a SJ Earthquakes victory on Sunday.

Salinas leads the way for SJ Earthquakes with four MLS goals this season, but teammate Hoesen is just one behind on three. Cincinnati don’t have a single player in their squad with more than one goal in the league this season, and converting the chances made in their last four matches has proved a very difficult problem. We’re confident that SJ Earthquakes will win and have predicted a final score of 3-1. There is no head to head record to judge these two teams on, so instead we going by form and recent performances alone, and all of that information points towards a home win on Sunday.
