San Jose Earthquakes vs Sporting Kansas City Predictions

SJ Earthquakes have only managed to pick up points in one of their six MLS games this season, but those three points did arrive in their last home game when they cruised to a 3-0 win over Portland Timbers. Visiting Sporting KC have only lost one of their opening six games this season and sit seventh in the Western Conference table, six points and three places above Sunday’s hosts.

SJ Earthquakes should have been 1-0 down at halftime during their trip to Texas last weekend, but Houston Dynamo’s Manotas failed to convert a penalty for the hosts in the thirty-fifth minute. Houston did take the lead early in the second half, but Yueill provided an almost immediate response with an equaliser four minutes later. Houston Dynamo responded well to SJ Earthquakes leveller and restored their lead on the hour mark, and despite pushing for a second equaliser SJ Earthquakes hopes of a draw came to an end when López was sent-off three minutes from time. A strike from Russell proved enough for Sporting KC to lead New York RB at halftime, but the visitors responded well in the second forty-five and by the seventy-fifth minute were 2-1 in front. Sporting KC kept searching for the equaliser their play deserved and with two minutes of the ninety remaining Busio scored and the scoreline ended 2-2.

The performances of these two teams so far this season, along with their recent head to head record, all points towards both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals being produced in Sunday’s game, and good chance that Sporting KC will take all three points. Three of the last five encounters between these two clubs have seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals, and Sporting KC have won five of the last six meetings between the pair. Three of SJ Earthquakes’ last six and three of Sporting KC’s last five matches have also seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals, but SJ Earthquakes have lost five of their last six matches in the MLS and that’s why we backing the visitors to run out 3-2 winners this weekend.

Espinoza top scores for SJ Earthquakes so far this season with two goals, while both Russell and Németh have scored four times for Sporting KC and their teammate Busio has chipped in with three goals. We’re confident that both teams will score and that over 2.5 goals will be produced in Sunday’s match, and have predicted a 3-2 scoreline in favour of Sporting KC. The visitors have started the season better and have an excellent record against the hosts over the last few seasons, but both teams have been scoring and conceding on a regular basis.
