San Lorenzo vs Rosario Central Predictions

Saturday’s Superliga Argentina action sees San Lorenzo doing battle with Rosario Central at the Estadio Pedro Bidegain. A close game is expected to be in order as both sides look to maintain their strong respective starts to the season.

After a truly awful campaign last season that saw them finish a terrible 23rd in the Superliga, there’s big pressure on San Lorenzo to find improvement this season. Though they may not have a squad as strong as that of years gone by, a club of their stature should never be finishing that low in the standings and fans are demanding an improved effort this time around.

El Ciclon clearly aren’t a powerhouse once again, evidenced by their recent Copa Libertadores elimination at the hands of Paraguayans Cerro Porteno, but their start to the new season does at least provide some reason for encouragement. Indeed, new boss Juan Antonio Pizzi has managed to help piece together opening wins over Godoy Cruz and Gimnasia de la Plata respectively and that has the side arriving for Saturday’s clash with a degree of momentum behind them.

Meanwhile, after a 20th place finish last season and less than impressive recent campaigns overall, Rosario Central come into this season with the threat of relegation hanging over them. As such, La Academia have been very aggressive in the transfer market and on paper, have a squad that now appears well up for the fight against the drop.

Early signs are promising and boss Diego Cocca has them looking a considerably more impressive outfit. The visitors have won both of their tough opening fixtures, against Atletico Tucuman and Talleres respectively, but currently just 3 points above the drop zone on the average points table, said type of form is what they need to sustain over the course of the season and every game is of huge importance for them.

Ultimately, although it’s clearly still early days, both San Lorenzo and Rosario Central look significantly stronger than they did last season and both are hopeful of piecing together stronger campaigns. On paper, both have the quality to finish closer to the top end of the table and looking at this match from a betting point of view, the two appear evenly matched.

As such, we really like the look of backing the draw and at current prices, that’s exactly where our money is going. 5 of San Lorenzo’s last 7 home league matches have ended all square, as have 2 of Rosario Central’s last 5 away league matches and with 3 of the last 6 meetings between the two having ended in draws, a 1-1 stalemate could well be on the cards on Saturday.
