San Martin De Tucuman vs Boca Juniors Predictions

Sunday’s Superliga Argentina action features a crunch clash between San Martin de Tucuman and Boca Juniors. The visitors arrive as big favourites to pick up all three points against the struggling hosts.

Whilst an impressive 3-1 win away at Huracan last weekend offers slight promise, San Martin de Tucuman still look destined for second tier football and remain rooted to the bottom of the average points table. The hosts don’t appear to have given relegation avoiding specialist Ricardo Caruso Lombardi enough time to work his magic, but if they can somehow win Sunday’s game, they’ll be in with a shout of surviving.

That doesn’t look at all likely however and San Martin have been uninspiring on home soil in recent matches. Indeed, they’ve not won any of their last 5 outings in front of their own fans, losing 3 times in the process and having scored just 2 goals across said fixtures, they hardly look primed and ready to go blow for blow with a side like Boca.

Indeed, the visitors certainly won’t be going easy on San Martin and have a great need for the points themselves. Currently 3rd with just 3 games left to play, Boca look set to finish in the all important top 4 but still need a few points to get themselves over the line and secure Copa Libertadores football for 2019.

As such, Gustavo Alfaro’s men will travel to Tucuman fully focused on the task at hand and will be desperate to secure victory. El Xeneize can be confident in doing exactly and are in very impressive form, having now won 4 of their last 5 games, whilst scoring an average of 2 goals a game in the process.

Ultimately, whilst we’re expecting San Martin to look to give it a real go and play on the front foot, they just don’t have enough quality to really trouble Boca. Man for man, the visitors are by far a stronger side than the hosts on paper and that’s evidenced by the fact the teams are fighting at opposite ends of the table.

All things considered, backing an away win here really appeals and is something we’re happy to do with maximum confidence. Boca are strong on the road, currently 8 matches unbeaten as visitors and they shouldn’t have huge issues in dispatching of their opponents, with a 3-1 margin of away victory on the cards.
