Santos vs Corinthians Predictions

Thursday’s Brazilian Serie A derby action sses local rivals Santos and Corinthians doing battle at the Vila Belmiro. The hosts will be hungry to claim bragging rights and the 3 points on offer on home soil.

Santos picked up a much needed win at the weekend, dominating Atletico Mineiro during a 3-1 victory which they fully deserved. After elimination from the Brazilian Cup last week, the team had been coming under a degree of pressure but have now got things back on the right track and will be looking to sign off on a high here ahead of the Copa America break.

Currently 2nd with 17 points from 8 matches, Jorge Sampaoli’s troops have made a good start to the campaign overall and it looks as though they’ll compete at the top end of Serie A this year. Having won an impressive 7 of their last 9 home matches, confidence will be high coming into this clash and those taking to the pitch will undoubtedly be going all out for the win.

Meanwhile, Corinthians were also knocked out the cup last week, leaving spirits low, but they managed to secure a fairly solid point away at Cruzeiro at the weekend. Timao didn’t play particularly well in said game however, and were very fortunate not to lose, so there can be little doubting they need to find improvement ahead of Thursday’s game.

Currently 9th with 12 points from 7 matches, Fabio Carille’s men have made a solid, if unspectacular start to the campaign. Nonetheless, they are hardly in the kind of form that saw them win the league under Carille back in 2017 and having failed to score in their last 2 away games, they don’t really come into this trip brimming with confidence.

Ultimately, this is a match which we view Santos as the favourites and they should be able to claim victory. They’ve looked in stronger shape than Corinthians so far this season and with the crowd behind them, they should be able to play at an intensity that the visitors will struggle to match.

All things considered, backing a home win looks the best way to play as far as the betting is concerned and is exactly where our money is going.
