Scotland vs Kazakhstan Predictions

Scotland are aiming to wrap up this group on a high, despite having little to celebrate from their results this year. The Tartan Army know they need a huge effort in March to reach Euro 2020, but can they get Hampden roaring once more? The hosts will want to get the home crowd behind them, while they need to claim a little revenge for their thumping loss in Kazakhstan.

A 2-1 win for the Scots in Cyprus last time out has left them looking a little better, as they’ve moved up to third in the group. However, they remain nine points shy of second, which comes after a really poor year that has seen too many bad results. Steve Clarke took over part-way through the qualifying campaign, but he has only recently labelled his side a work in progress.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan saw their campaign drop off following a 3-0 victory over Scotland in the opening game. That set the tone for their struggles throughout the campaign, as they lost five of their first seven matches in this group. That left them out of the running, with back-to-back wins restoring a little pride for the Scots.

The hosts improved their scoring record in those two games, hitting six past San Marino and scoring twice at Cyprus last time out. In home competitive games, they’ve managed to score twice in four of their last six, while Kazakhstan have conceded twice in four of their five losses in this group. With just one win in their last eight away matches, we expect the visitors to struggle in this one.

The Scots should get forward for their final game, while a couple of goals would lift the mood ahead of their play-off semi-final in March. We’re going for over 1.5 Scotland goals as a result, with Kazakhstan looking a little shaky at the back, having become the first side to concede to San Marino in this group. They should be exposed again here, so over 1.5 goals for the hosts seems good value.

We’re backing Scotland to secure another 2-1 victory following their success against Cyprus on Saturday. They have decent scoring form at home, but they’ve kept just one clean sheet in their last six here. Only Belgium and Russia have prevented the visitors from scoring across their last 10 away trips, so we see them scoring here. As a result, we’re going with a 2-1 Scotland win as our correct score tip in this one.
