Scotland vs Slovenia Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Scotland were the only home nation to miss out on a trip to France last summer, and things haven’t improved for them since the World Cup qualifiers began. They managed an easy victory against Malta in their first match, but a dismal 1-1 draw at home to Lithuania followed and they then lost 3-0 away to both Slovakia and Slovenia.

The hosted Canada in a midweek friendly as they looked to get back to winning ways ahead of this competitive fixture, but a flat performance saw them struggle to a 1-1 draw against a Canada side not exactly brimming with star quality.

This leaves Scotland some way off the pace in the World Cup qualifiers already, with them sitting second from bottom in the table with just four points to their name. Arch rivals England are six points above them at the top of the group, whilst Slovenia are 2nd with a decent eight point tally.

Slovenia narrowly missed out on Euro 2016 last summer as they lost to Ukraine in the 3rd place playoffs, and despite a few poor results in the warm up friendlies for that competition, they have managed to bounce back.

They started the World Cup qualification campaign with a 2-2 draw away to Lithuania, but a 1-0 win over Slovakia and a goalless draw at home to England were much more impressive feats. They only managed a 1-0 win away to Malta in their last competitive game, but the result never really looked in doubt.

Since then they have held Poland and Saudi Arabia to draws away from home, and most recently beat Finland in January. Away from home they are unbeaten in five matches, although only one of those has ended in victory.

Scotland have only won one of their last five at home as well, with three of them ending all square. I think there could be another stalemate on the cards here, and odds of 2/1 for that outcome look to offer a good amount of value.
