Scunthorpe vs Morecambe Predictions

Scunthorpe are still searching for their first league win of the season after losing 2-0 away at Mansfield Town last weekend, while Morecambe held Salford City to a 2-2 draw away and moved onto six points for the season.

The stats point towards both teams scoring in Saturday’s clash and we’ve decided to back Scunthorpe to claim their first league win of the season, due to their good record against Morecambe.

These two teams might only have played one another three times before but Scunthorpe have never lost against Morecambe. Scunthorpe won the first league meeting between the pair in 2013 and drew the reverse fixture in 2014, with the pair clashing in the EFL Trophy in 2016 where, after a 1-1 draw, Scunthorpe won on penalties. Both teams scored the last two times Scunthorpe and Morecambe locked horns and we’re expecting both teams to find the back of the net this weekend as well.

The form of both teams has been poor of late but Scunthorpe won one and lost one of their last two matches, while Morecambe haven’t won any of their last five matches and have lost their last three away games, 5-1 against Blackpool, 3-1 at Swindon Town, and 4-0 in the League Cup against Burton Albion.

There are plenty of reasons to back both teams to score on Saturday, starting with the fact that both teams scored in three of Scunthorpe’s and four of Morecambe’s last six matches, not to mention that the hosts haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last six matches and that Morecambe have conceded goals in each of their last five games in all competitions.

Games between these two teams have always been close and with both teams winning one, drawing one, and losing four of their last six matches, we’re expecting another tight and tense affair between the pair, and that is part of the reason we have gone with a final score of 2-1 to Scunthorpe.

We’re confident that both teams will score on Saturday and have predicted a final scoreline of 2-1 in favour of the hosts. Both teams are in poor form but along with the home advantage, Scunthorpe are unbeaten against Morecambe and will be desperate to get their first league win of the season. The visitors have struggled on the road and while they might not concede as many as they did at Blackpool, Swindon or Burton, their defence looks weak and Scunthorpe must exploit that on Saturday.
