Seattle Sounders vs FC Cincinnati Predictions

Seattle Sounders enjoyed an excellent 2018 campaign as they finished second in the Western Conference, but their pre-season form suggests Sunday’s hosts will struggle to repeat those heights this year. FC Cincinnati became the latest franchise to be added to the MLS roster, and with some decent signings in the bag they might just challenge for a Play-Off place this season as we saw with LAFC last year.

Seattle Sounders avoided defeat in their final pre-season game away at SJ Earthquakes, but lost their previous five matches and confidence is bound to be low. The visitors had a mixed run of results in pre-season, beating the likes of Charleston Battery and Colorado Rapids, but lost their final game at home to Columbus Crew. Cincinnati have made some good signings and will be hoping to cause a surprise or two this season, beginning with a positive result in their opening game against Seattle.

With the teams having no previous history we’ve made our prediction for the game based on the two sides performances in pre-season, and we fancy FC Cincinnati to put in a good display on the opening day and avoid defeat against an out of form Seattle Sounders. Seattle Sounders failed to win any of their pre-season games, picking up one draw and suffering five defeats, while Cincinnati picked up two wins, three draws, and two defeats from their seven friendlies. Both teams have scored in five of Seattle Sounders’ last six and four of Cincinnati’s last five matches, so we’re expecting both teams to get on the scoreboard this weekend. Its difficult to know how Cincinnati will adapt to life in the MLS, but we believe they will pick up something on from Sunday’s opener.

Tony Alfaro and Osvaldo Alonso have both left Seattle Sounders, with Saad Abdul-Salaam and Brad Smith joining the club. Fanendo Adi, Kendall Waston, Greg Garza, Nick Hagglund, Roland Lamah, and Alvas Powell have all joined Cincinnati and bring with them MKS experience, while Caleb Stanko, Kekuta Manneh, and Mathieu Deplagne have come in from abroad. We’re confident that Cincinnati will take something from Sunday’s match and have backed the visitors with a double chance bet, with the scoreline to end 2-1 to the MLS’ newest franchise. The visitors have looked decent in pre-season, while Seattle Sounders have been really poor. Cincinnati have made some really good signings and will be desperate to make their mark on the MLS in their first game.
