Seattle Sounders vs Philadelphia Union Predictions

Seattle Sounders moved ahead of Portland Timbers and to within a point of Real Salt Lake thanks to a narrow 2-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps last weekend, and on Thursday they play host to Philadelphia Union. The visitors missed out on a chance to move to within one point of Columbus Crew following their heavy defeat at home to Montreal Impact on Sunday and are now four points behind the fourth placed side in the Eastern Conference.

Three goals were scored at the BC Place Stadium in British Columbia last weekend and they all arrived in the first half as Seattle Sounders picked up all three points from their trip to Canada. The visitors Peruvian international Ruidíaz broke the deadlock in the twenty-first minute and then double his and Seattle’s advantage three minutes before the break.

Vancouver needed a response and they got one in first half stoppage time when top scorer Kamara brought the home side back into the match. Seattle Sounders don’t often create a lot of chances in a match, and this game was no different, but their solid defence shone in a second half that Vancouver Whitecaps just edged and helped secure a ninth straight league win for the visitors.

A victory on Thursday evening could see Seattle Sounders move as high as third in the Western Conference and to within two points of second placed Dallas. The hosts have the play-offs in their sights, but if this fantastic run of form continues then they might even claim the top spot in their respective Conference.

Philadelphia Union had won their last four games before drawing away at struggling Orlando City, and they then followed that point on the road with a heavy defeat at home to Canadian outfit Montreal Impact.

The U’s actually took the lead through Trusty in the eleventh minute, but this proved to be a false dawn as goals from Silva and Taïder put Montreal in front heading into the interval. The next goal was always going to be crucial to the end result and when Amarikwa put the visitors 3-1 up, their was no way back for Philadelphia Union.

Silva helped himself to another goal late on as the Canadians secured an impressive 4-1 win on the road against a Philadelphia side that had gone five games unbeaten in the MLS. The U’s need to respond on Thursday as they now have just a five point cushion ahead of seventh placed DC United and a worse goal difference.

Neither Seattle nor Philadelphia boast a single player into double figures in league goals so far this season, with Lodeiro leading the way for the hosts with seven goals and Jamaica’s Burke on eight for the visitors.

We’re confident that Seattle Sounders will make it to ten straight wins on Thursday night and that both teams will score in the process. Seattle Sounders have won their last nine MLS games, while Philadelphia Union lost their last match against Montreal Impact 4-1. Both teams have scored in four of Seattle’s last six matches and three of Philadelphia’s last six. In terms of a final score, we’re backing another narrow 2-1 win for Seattle Sounders whose form is the best in the MLS at this moment in time.
