Senegal vs Algeria Predictions

After meeting a few weeks ago in the group stage, Senegal and Algeria face off in the Africa Cup of Nations final. Algeria were able to win the group stage clash 1-0, but they are going to have a tough time when the duo meet in Cairo on Friday. Each side are looking to put right long barren spells on the international stage, with Senegal hoping to win this trophy for the first time. Can they claim revenge on the Greens and finally land Africa Cup of Nations glory this week?

Senegal are fired on by Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, who comes into this clash pushing for the golden boot. He’s set to lead the way for Senegal here, having scored three times at this tournament. Up front, there are concerns that the Lions of Teranga are limited beyond him, as no other player has scored more than once at this tournament this summer. A lot of the scoring burden has fallen on Mane, but he’s lucky that Senegal’s great defence usually means a single goal is enough.

Algeria will certainly be out to test that Senegal defence, with the underdogs boasting two players on three goals each – Riyad Mahrez and Adam Ounas. They’ve not been quite as convincing since the quarter-finals, struggling past the likes of the Ivory Coast and Nigeria. Now there’s a demand for Algeria to step up, as they look to repeat their 1-0 win over Senegal from the group stage. However, that tight game could have swung either way, so will the Greens be able to take control of this game?

Algeria may have topped Group C ahead of Senegal, but when you break down the numbers Senegal are the better performing of these two sides. They have recorded 56% possession in Egypt, whereas Algeria were just narrowly shading control of the ball across their games. Senegal have a superior aerial duel and passing success rate, while the Lions of Ternaga are helped by having a brilliant defensive record.

Senegal have conceded once all tournament, letting in 1% of the shots they’ve faced this summer. They’ve got an impressive foundation in their backline, which has more than just the talents of Kalidou Koulibaly, so we think Senegal will grind out a victory. We’re backing them to win this clash on the Draw No Bet market, while we’re also predicting a clean sheet for a Senegal side who have won to nil in nine of their last 12 matches.
