Sete vs Lille Predictions

It’s sure to be Sète’s biggest game in quite a while as they host Ligue 1 Lille but do they have any chance of getting a positive result over les Dogues? Sète were on a good run at the end of 2018 with three wins and a draw to round off the year but they have recently hit a snag with narrow defeats coming to Bordelais (1-2) and Romorantin (1-2) in the last ten days. These defeats have hit Sète hard as Bordelais and Romorantin are below them in the table and it has disrupted les Dauphins’ form as they were just pushing up the table; they would be 2nd if they had won both of those matches but they remain 8th as a result.

Sète have been very consistent this season, with their attack usually on target no matter the opposition. They have scored in 13 of their last 16 matches, keeping seven clean sheets in that time and have picked up a solid home record of just two losses in their last 16 games at the Stade Louis Michel. They have won nine of these games and this could be a pivotal part of this fixture as they try to stun Lille.

Lille come into this match in tremendous form which has kept them 2nd in Ligue 1, against all odds. They finished 17th last season but Christophe Galtier’s men have been on fire so far and are showing little sign of stopping. They have shown a lot of the qualities required of teams finishing high up the table, such as the ability to win when playing poorly. This was the case against relegation favourites Amiens, as while the dangerous front four of Bamba, Pépé, Leao and Ikone were quiet, they were still able to rescue the three points through defensive midfielder Xeka’s late winner.

They have now won three matches on the trot and look full of confidence but their defence remains a worry for Galtier’s side. They allowed Juan Otero to gain so much space at the back post in their last match, which has extended their run to five league games without a clean sheet. This should be something that Sète look to exploit in this match.

Lille have won their last three matches on the road with seven goals scored in that time and we’re backing that to continue as they come up against pretty average opponents here in Sète. The Championnat National 2 side have scored in 13 of their last 15 home matches and we’re backing them to do this again against this rather weak defence of Lille. However, les Dogues have a fantastic front four which should run rings around Sète so we’re going to back a 3-1 victory for Lille. They are the fourth highest scorers in Ligue 1 so should make quick work of the fourth-tier side.
