Sheffield Wednesday vs Brentford Predictions

  • All of Sheffield Wednesday’s five league games this term have featured fewer than 2.5 goals, with the same applying to three of Brentford’s five matches.
  • The teams have kept five clean sheets between them in 10 ten combined matches this season.
  • Wednesday are without a win in eight at Hillsborough and have won just one of their last 14 home games.

Bees to Edge Out Battling Wednesday

A double salvo from new striker Ivan Toney sealed a cosy three points for Brentford against Coventry at the weekend, but The Bees may have to battle harder if they are to follow-up against Sheffield Wednesday this week.

Whilst it’s early days in the Championship, a four point haul from four games was nowhere near good enough for Thomas Franke’s Brentford, so the German will have been delighted to see his side get firmly back on track with a decisive victory on Saturday.

It keeps The Bees in touch with the teams at the head of affairs and Frank will now be hoping his charges can put a similar run together to that what they achieved towards the end of last term when automatic promotion was so nearly achieved.

Forthcoming opponents Sheffield Wednesday should offer sterner resistance though in comparison to The Sky Blues, with The Owls battling to restore parity after their 12-point deduction for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

And with such a psychological barrier in the way from the first whistle this term, Garry Monk’s side have done a fantastic job thus far. They have managed to knock eight points off their deficit, thanks in part to a Barry Bannan penalty on Saturday which proved enough to see off Birmingham City 0-1 at St Andrews.

Monk’s side will do everything they can here to contain what is arguably a much more talented Brentford outfit and we should expect a low scoring skirmish at Hillsborough.

All five of Wednesday’s Championship games to date have featured fewer than 2.5 goals, with the same applying to three of Brentford’s five starts. The teams have kept five clean sheets already between them, so under 2.5 is our advised selection.

Brentford will have to grind this one out, but we’re narrowly giving them the verdict based on their overall quality and the fact Wednesday are without a home league win in eight. So, alongside our under 2.5 goals prediction, we’re also tipping up a 0-1 score-line in favour of the visitors.
