Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Over 2.5 goals have been scored in four of the hosts’ last five games, as well as in four of Burton Albion’s five away games in League One this term. The visitors, meanwhile, have seen a total of 25 goals scored across their last six matches.

Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

Three of Burton Albion’s last four visits to the New Meadow have ended as draws. Shrewsbury have won just one of their four home league games this term and may not be worth backing against a team enjoying a new manager bounce.

Shrewsbury vs Burton Albion Predictions

  • Over 2.5 goals have been scored in four of Burton Albion’s five away league games this season.
  • A total of 25 goals have been scored in Burton’s last six games in all competitions.
  • Shrewsbury Town, meanwhile, have seen a minimum of three goals scored in four of their last five matches.

Brewers hope to continue revival

While a tally of seven defeats from their opening nine League One games leaves Burton Albion bottom of the third tier and led to an early managerial change, the Brewers are looking up after sealing back-to-back wins with an EFL Trophy success at Sheffield Wednesday in midweek, and will hope to be competitive at Shrewsbury Town. While Burton have shipped goals with alarming regularity this campaign, Dino Maamria’s appointment has heralded an attacking improvement.

Indeed, Burton have scored five goals across their successive wins, and have now seen a huge total of 25 strikes netted across their last six games in all competitions. Last week’s win at Exeter City saw Burton overcome a side which had won three of their previous four home games, and they will hope their new manager bounce continues in Shropshire. However, Burton’s tally of 22 goals conceded is comfortably the worst in League One this season.

Shrewsbury endured a defensive collapse of their own in midweek, going down 4-0 at home to Port Vale in the EFL Trophy. Four of their last five matches have now contained over 2.5 goals, as have four of their last five home outings. Steve Cotterill’s men have only won one league home game this season, however, so a reinvigorated Brewers team could test them.

Goals likely at the New Meadow

With Shrewsbury’s inconsistent form and Burton’s managerial change meaning the result markets may be best avoided, backing over 2.5 goals to be scored on Saturday appears a prudent play – four of Burton’s five away league games this term have contained a minimum of three goals.

Meanwhile, a 2-2 draw could represent a decent correct score punt – Burton have drawn on three of their last four visits to this ground.
