      Shrewsbury vs Luton Predictions

Shrewsbury won’t score three goals away from home and still lose too many times, but that’s what happened during the week. When on-loan forward Fejiri Okenabirhie completed his hat-trick in stoppage time, it looked as though the Shrews had rescued a point, though there was somehow still enough time for Bradford to have the final say, as they scored the winner in the 96th minute. The Shrews now need to bounce back after failing to win any of their last six league matches.

The Shrews will have been gutted to lose to 96th minute goal in the week, especially since they worked so hard to level at 3-3 just minutes before, though on the overall balance of play, they could have few complaints. Bradford offers that bit more going forward and thus were just about deserving winners.

Shrewsbury gave away too much in the week, while they also gave away too much when they hosted Charlton recently, though conceding a large amount in terms of chances or goals is not something that they’ve made a habit of at home. Prior to their defeat against Charlton, the Shrews had looked nice and tight at the back, as they shut out both Coventry and Fleetwood on this venue. Granted, Luton are the toughest team to deny in League One at present, but if the Shrews can regain the defensive solidity that they previously possessed, then the can make life tough for the league leaders. The fact that Sam Rickett’s men have conceded an average of just one goal and 1.01 expected goals at New Meadow this season is pleasing, as is the fact that they’ve bettered their opponents in terms of expected goals in five of their last seven at this venue.

Even with a few useful players on treatment table at present, Luton continued to march forward on Tuesday evening, as they made relatively light work of scoring three goals against the side that currently sits second in the League One table.

In truth, all hype aside, it’s very tough to criticise Luton’s recent efforts. The Hatters are consistently bettering their opponent in all areas, while they have few problems in outscoring teams. However, it must be said that they’ve been slightly more subdued on the road. At Kenilworth Road, Luton have often blown teams out of the water, but they’ve not been as forthcoming away from home. They’ve still done a good job at both ends, though their overall attacking efforts haven’t been that better than Shrewsbury’s at home, while they’ve not looked as tight at the back either.

In the betting, many punters will find it tough to do anything other than back Luton to win, though given their overall efforts on the road, the visitors make little appeal at the prices. Instead, ‘Both Teams to Score’ looks a viable option.

Shrewsbury have often defended well at home, though if their recent form is anything to go by, they’ll find it tough to shutout the best attack in the league. That said, they can get involved offensively. Luton have conceded in four of their last six on the road and have shipped an average of 1.31 expected goals. More importantly, with Shrewsbury averaging 1.55 expected goals for at home and with Luton averaging 1.57 on the road, ‘Both Teams to Score’ looks a tad overpriced.
