      Shrewsbury vs Wolverhampton Predictions

18th placed Shrewsbury Town get a break from their arduous League One campaign this weekend, when attention turns to the FA Cup 4th Round and the Shrews’ contest against Wolverhampton Wanderers from the Premier League.

Having won only 1 of their last 8 matches, it’s fair to say that Shrewsbury aren’t in the best shape ahead of Saturday’s cup tie, though the solitary victory they did secure during that period did come against opposition from a higher division in the FA Cup.

In Round 3, Shrewsbury recovered from 2 goals down with 20 minutes on the clock to snatch an unlikely 3-2 victory against Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium.

And while a repeat of that result on Saturday against Wolves feels extremely unlikely, Town will enter the fixture with a little more confidence than they might have, thanks to their triumph against the Potters.

With 6 wins from their last 10 games, Wolves have hit a rich vein of form ahead of their cup clash in Shropshire. Wanderers battled their way to a 4-3 win against Leicester City last weekend in one of the most dramatic end-to-end games of the Premier League season so far.

The win was Wolves’ second on the spin at Molineux, after their impressive 2-1 win against an under-strength Liverpool at the same venue in the FA Cup at the beginning of the month.

With Wolves already looking destined for an upper-mid table Premier League finish this season, manager Nuno Espirito Santo won’t have to entertain any thoughts about weakening his team for Saturday’s FA Cup game.

Wanderers should be close to full strength at Montgomery Waters Meadow, and that should ensure that they ease past Shrewsbury with relative comfort.

Wolves have kept only 1 clean sheet in their last 16 fixtures in all competitions however, and we expect Shrewsbury to breach that porous rearguard this weekend, even if the goal will almost certainly be a consolation.

Despite their troubles, Shrewsbury have only failed to score 3 times in their last 18 games at home. With that considered, we think the Wolves win & both teams to score combination is priced brilliantly for this one.

Having hit 4 goals for the first time this season last week against Leicester, Wolves’ attackers should be purring with confidence right now. We expect them to capitalise on their recent momentum against Shrewsbury by bagging another few goals in a 3-1 win.
