Silkeborg IF vs AC Horsens Predictions

The season didn’t exactly get off to a flyer for either Silkeborg or Horsens last weekend. Sunday’s hosts were beaten 3-0 by Brondby, while Horsens also tasted a 3-0 defeat when taking on Viborg. After struggling first time out, both teams will be hoping that match-day two brings about a turnaround in fortunes.

Having won promotion from the second division at the end of last season, Silkeborg will be hoping to settle into life at the top level. They didn’t get off to a good start when losing to Brondby last weekend, though they shouldn’t be judged too harshly for that effort. After all, their safety won’t exactly depend on how they do against the top teams, rather how they perform against sides such as Horsens.

After a tough opening fixture on the road, this appears to be a good opportunity for the hosts, who were very strong at home in the second division last season.

Horsens did manage to keep themselves in the division thanks to a win in the relegation play-off at the end of last season, though there wasn’t too much to like about the way they went about their business overall, especially on the road. Between the turn of the year and the end of the previous campaign, Horsens failed to win any of their six travelling matches. Defensively, they did often compete, though a lack of forward power often cost them. In those six away matches, Horsens scored just a single goal.

It is very early days, though when they took on Nordsjaelland at home last weekend, Horsens’ offensive problems certainly didn’t look to be a thing of the past. The fact that they failed to score on home soil, posting just 0.59 expected goals for, was disappointing.

From a betting point of view, it’s not terribly difficult to side with the hosts, whose home form helped them to win promotion last season. Horsens weren’t the sort of side that always took a battering away from home last term, though they lost plenty of games thanks to lack of creative/forward quality, a lack of quality that seemed to be very much alive last weekend.
