Brann vs Valerenga Predictions

Brann have really taken this Norwegian Eliteserien season by storm and already have a 6 point advantage at the top of the standings. As we head into the middle part of the season, they have the real opportunity to break clear and assume what could turn into an unassailable advantage on the chasing pack.

They’ve only won the Norwegian league once since 1963 so that would be some achievement for the club and they certainly cemented their title credentials last time out with a 2-1 win away to defending champions Rosenborg. They’ve been knocked out of the cup since then but that could prove something of a blessing in disguise as they try to focus on clinching league glory.

Valerenga are among a cluster of five teams separated by just three points beneath Brann. They will prove a test but are unlikely to have enough about them to cause an upset. Inconsistency has held them back, particularly away from home. They’ve recorded a 6-1 win on their travels this term but have also been beaten 3-0 twice away.

That includes their most recent away match when they were comfortably defeated by Tromso. Their averages of 1.5 goals per game conceded away and 1.33 overall are also quite poor for a side that has European ambitions and suggest that Brann will have little trouble breaking them down at least once in this game.

The hosts have been outstanding defensively this term, letting in just 0.42 goals per game on average. They’ve been the pace-setters in just about every department with the Eliteserien’s best defensive record, best away record and best home record in terms of points per game.

It’s worth noting that they’ve achieved this fabulous start despite 7 of their opening 12 games being away from home. No Eliteserien side has played fewer home games than them but their average of 2.6 points per game in front of their own fans is very good and they will fancy they can improve on that here.

Brann have been the class act in this division so far in 2018 and all things considered backing a Home Win looks like the wise move here.

All of their home wins so far this season have been to nil and given Valerenga have failed to net in a third of their away games, backing Brann to Win to Nil could also be worth considering.
