Spain vs England Predictions

England played out a 0-0 draw in an eerie atmosphere on Friday night, failing to breakdown Croatia in a stalemate in front of an empty ground. That’s done little for their hopes in the Nations League, but it’s helped cement the dynamic in this group. The Spanish have two wins from two after a strong start in September, which has put them five points clear of both England and Croatia. That pair are now fighting to avoid the drop, which will likely come down to their clash at Wembley next month.

The hosts have launched into excellent form after their World Cup disappointment, and new boss Luis Enrique has turned things around. While they looked rudderless in their exit to Russia at the World Cup, the Spanish returned to form by racking up eight goals in wins over England and Croatia last month. They returned to the UK last week, winning 4-1 at Wales as they got up and running for this clash in Seville. Will they follow that victory up by claiming another three points to win the group?

Gareth Southgate was hoping to build on their World Cup success, but so far his young side have failed to do that. The manager earned a new contract on the back of their run to the last four, but they’ve picked up one disappointing win in three games since leaving Russia. They’re facing relegation from the top tier of the Nations League, which would be a clear backward step. That would also make their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign potentially harder, as it would hurt their seeding and set up a clash with a heavyweight team.

Meeting a big side in qualifying might end up being good for England, although they’ve done little to impress in big games so far this Autumn. They have missed out on two chances to land a competitive victory over a top team so far, and this clash could go the same way. Their narrow win over Switzerland last month was far from impressive, and it looks pretty averaged when compared with Spain’s 12 goals in three games under their new boss.

Spain’s step up in form has made them obvious favourites for this clash. They’ve got so much attacking talent, while their midfield strength should overwhelm the weakest area of Southgate’s side. We’re backing Spain to make it four wins from four under Enrique, and we’re tipping his side to claim a 2-0 victory.
