      SPAL vs Lecce Predictions

Two of Serie A’s early strugglers meet on Wednesday night, but who will walk away with the points in this clash? These two sides find themselves in the bottom four after four games, with the pair struggling for results. They’ve each claimed a single win so far, but will the newly-promoted visitors make it two wins on the spin on the road with a victory in this one?

SPAL were brilliant in the closing stages of last season, making a late rush for a top-half finish after a fine run of form. The home side are hoping to recapture that streak, especially given that they’re coming into this clash on the back of a big victory. Their last home game saw them beat Lazio 2-1, which was the kind of result which inspired them late last term. They saw off Lazio, Roma and Juventus in a stretch here earlier this year, so at their best they should dispatch Lecce.

The visitors were able to shock Torino with a 2-1 win in their visit to Turin, but they returned to normal with a 4-1 thumping against Napoli at the weekend. It’s set to be a tough campaign for the visitors, given the struggles which Serie B’s promoted trio have had in the top flight in recent years. They tend to disappoint on the road, with recent seasons usually sending down two of the three promoted sides.

While SPAL haven’t had everything their own way at home this term, they have scored twice in their last three league games at this ground. They have faced Atalanta, AC Milan and Napoli in their last four here, pushing all three. That makes us think that the hosts will produce a strong display against a Lecce side who are going to be fighting off relegation this term.

SPAL manager Leonardo Semplici has won seven of his 10 Serie A matches against newly-promoted teams (D2, L1). He’ll need to get SPAL firing against the newcomers, while this is the perfect chance for the hosts to build on their recent home victory. As a result, we think that SPAL will deliver in this encounter on Wednesday, so we are backing a home victory in this one.

Lecce have at least stepped up their scoring return in recent games, as they’ve found the back of the net in consecutive matches. They did get forward and make chances in their first two, but now they are converting. Meanwhile, SPAL have seen both teams score in six of their last seven Serie A games. Given that form, we’re also going for a 2-1 home victory this week.
