Sparta Rotterdam vs PSV Reserves Predictions

A late goal from Abdou Harroui salvaged a point for Sparta Rotterdam at NEC last week, but it wasn’t enough to prevent them from surrendering the Eerste Divisie lead to Go Ahead Eagles. It continued a frustrating run of results for Henk Fraser’s side on the road, and they’ll be glad to return to Het Kasteel this Friday, where they boast a 100% record this term. Can Sparta make it eight wins from eight in Rotterdam against an improving Jong PSV outfit?

Sparta Rotterdam have only lost one of their seven away fixtures this season but they’ve now drawn four times, and are failing to find the same fluency shown at Het Kasteel where they’ve landed seven straight wins.

Their 1-1 draw at NEC last weekend will perhaps be the most frustrating of the lot for Henk Fraser’s side, considering their opponents went into that game on the back of a 4-0 hiding at Jong Ajax, but a combination of Sparta failing to fire and NEC markedly raising their efforts led to yet further points dropped for Sparta on their travels.

It’s finally caught up with them in terms of the table and Go Ahead seized the initiative last Sunday with an impressive 0-1 success at Twente. Eagles face another test this Friday though as an Oss team on a four match winning streak visit De Adelaarshorst – so a win for Sparta over Jong PSV could well see them jump back into pole position.

Jong PSV are having similar troubles away from home this season with two wins, two draws and three defeats posted thus far. Although, they did get the better of RKC 3-5 in an absolute thriller when last on the road a fortnight ago.

Dennis Haar’s side followed up that success with a cosy 3-1 victory over Jong AZ at De Herdgang last week as Max Romero waded in with a brace, and Jong are now up to 7th in the standings after losing just one of their last seven league fixtures.

Jong’s ultimate aim this season will be to finish best out of the four reserve sides in the division, and they’re looking good in that respect with a three point advantage held over 11th placed Jong Ajax and a 13 point lead held over Jong AZ and Jong Utrecht who are 17th and 18th respectively at the moment.

In truth though, Jong PSV lack the quality needed to really trouble this Sparta outfit on match day 15, and Het Kasteel is hardly the venue of choice for a side struggling to compose themselves away from home.

Sparta have won four of the six previous meetings between the teams, including a 1-0 victory when the teams last clashed in Rotterdam three seasons ago, and we can only see Henk Fraser’s men improving that record here.

The odds in the match betting will probably only appeal to punters placing multiple bets for this round of games, but backing Sparta to win with over 3.5 goals scored is an attractive single bet. Sparta’s seven home games this term have generated 25 goals, whilst Jong’s seven away fixtures have featured a whopping 38 goals. There’s no reason then why we shouldn’t be in for an exciting contest in Rotterdam, and a 4-2 result in favour of the hosts is our correct score prediction.
