St Johnstone vs Dundee Predictions

St Johnstone suffered heartbreak last time out against Rangers. They came from two goals behind with a late flurry of action, but the 91st minute saw them concede the final goal of the game to lose 3-2 and continue their poor run of results in recent weeks.

The hosts have now lost four of their last five matches in all competitions, and the defeat to Rangers saw them fail to leapfrog Hearts in the Scottish Premiership, meaning they remain in 5th position for the time being.

St Johnstone aren’t even managing to perform at McDiarmid Park either. They have won just two of their last eight home league games, drawing twice and losing four times. Only one of these defeats was against a top four team as well, so they really are below par at the moment.

Dundee’s unbeaten streak came to an end at the start of March as they lost 1-0 at home to Partick Thistle, following on from two draws and two wins in the Scottish Premiership. They do sit in a fairly comfortable 7th position in the Premiership, and a win on Saturday could send them into the top half of the table. The six point gap between them and the relegation playoff position may look comfortable at the moment, but things can change quickly in this section of the table.

In the Premiership Dundee have lost just two of their last seven matches, and despite an overall record of poor form on the road, they have managed to avoid defeat in each of their last two trips away, including an emphatic 5-1 thrashing of Motherwell at the end of February.

The bookies seem to be expecting a low scoring game here, but I’m not sure that will be the case. St Johnstone have seen at least three goals in six of their last nine home league games, thanks to a dangerous attack but a troubled defence when they come under pressure.

Dundee scored five in their last away match but also have a rather dodgy back line. They have seen at least three goals in four of their last five trips away, so backing Over 2.5 Goals at 21/20 along with a 2-2 correct score predictions at 14/1 looks a good choice to me.
