      St Mirren vs Dundee Predictions

Bottom of the league St Mirren will host 11th placed Dundee on Saturday at St Mirren Park as the sides try and claw their way out of the relegation zone. Who will come out on top?

The 2017/2018 Scottish Championship winners are in extreme danger of dropping back down to the division they just won after a mere season back in the Scottish Premiership. The Buddies are currently bottom in the league table after what can only be described as a disastrous season for the Paisley club.

Manager Oran Kearney has done relatively well with the squad he inherited from Alan Stubbs, who lasted a mere 4 months at the club before getting the sack. St Mirren were never able to put together a good run of games, and their low tally of 17 points reflects that.

The Buddies have lost 7 of their 9 league games so far this year that include 4-0 thrashings off Celtic and Rangers, a 3-1 loss to Hibs, as well as losses against Motherwell, Kilmarnock and St Johnstone during the week. Meanwhile, the remaining trio of games did see St Mirren achieve some impressive results, with 2 away draws to Aberdeen and Hearts and a narrow 1-0 win over Livingston thanks to a last-minute goal from Ryan Flynn.

Dundee’s form so far this year is almost identical to that of their next opponents, only Jim McIntyre’s side has been able to win a game more than the Buddies. After picking up just 2 points in their last 6 games of the year, the Dee needed to get back to their winning ways once the winter break was over to try and keep up with both St Mirren and Hamilton.

A 1-1 draw with Queen of the South in the Scottish FA Cup was not the result McIntyre hoped for, as it meant a replay later on, but Dundee managed to build on that result by beating Hearts 2-1 at Tynecastle. The Dee lost their next 2 games, including their replay in the FA Cup, but they put those defeats behind the, by failing to lose their next 3 games, drawing 1-1 with Hamilton, 2-2 with Kilmarnock and finally beating Livingston 2-1 at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

However, since then the club has been in freefall, losing their last 4 games. In Dundee’s defense, these games were against Hibs, Rangers, Hearts and Celtic- and McIntyre’s side almost got away with a point in the match with the reigning champions if it weren’t for Odsonne Édouard’s last minute goal to deny the hosts a much-needed point.

A single point separates the team, so this is going to be a crucial game them in their fight for survival. A win for either side would bring them one step closer to Hamilton, who are in the safe zone, and distance themselves from the automatic relegation place.

Dundee do have the slight advantage going into this game, as they didn’t have to play during the week and have had almost 2 weeks to prepare for this game. We’re going to back the Dee to claim all 3 points here, but it’s more than likely going to be a cagey match with very little goals, which is why we’re also going for a final score of 1-0.
