Stoke vs Hull Predictions

With no wins from their first four matches in the Championship, it’s clear that Stoke City are struggling to shed their woes from last season. The Potters were relegated from the Premier League in May, but despite having one of the strongest teams in the Championship on paper, City have looked disorganised and unmotivated thus far.

Stoke’s 0-3 home defeat to Wigan at the Bet365 Stadium on Wednesday was a new low and Gary Rowett has a job on his hands to reignite his players’ confidence. Successive draws against Preston and Brentford just before their latest defeat had hinted at a change in fortunes for Stoke, though their latest setback knocks them back to square one.

Stoke have no shortage of top flight experience in their side and an upturn in results shouldn’t be too far away. City will expect much more from the likes of Tom Ince, Benik Afobe, Saido Berahino and James McClean in the coming weeks – any of those players are potential match winners on their day at Championship level.

Those players and the rest of their Potters teammates will feel they have a huge chance to register their first win of the season this weekend against a Hull City notoriously poor on their travels.

The Tigers have bucked the trend somewhat in the opening weeks of the new season, taking a win and a draw from their away games against Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham, but over the longer term, their record on the road is dreadful.

In the 2017/18 season, Hull won just four of their twenty-three Championship away matches and their poor results on their travels conspired to keep them closer to the drop zone than they would have expected to be.

Hull’s 3-2 win at Rotherham in mid-week comes as a timely confidence booster after they had gone three Championship matches without a victory, though facing Stoke on their own patch is a decidedly more difficult challenge.

Neither Stoke nor Hull have kept a single clean sheet in any of their competitive outings this season and with neither defence looking remotely well drilled, we expect both goalkeepers to concede again this week.

Three of Stoke’s four league fixtures so far have finished with over 2.5 goals scored in them and Saturday’s clash in Staffordshire promises to pass that mark too. Having digested those statistics, we recommend you couple the both teams to score option with a 2.5 goal selection.

With their supporters on the edge of combustion, Stoke’s players have a point to prove this weekend. The quality in their team should bubble to the surface eventually and we’re predicting that we will get a glimpse at their Premier League class on Saturday. We’re predicting a home win and a first three points of the season for Stoke. Our correct score prediction forecasts a badly needed 2-1 win for Stoke City.
