      Swindon vs Yeovil Town Predictions

Swindon are another of the teams looking to make a late dash for the play-offs, and after winning each of their last two, Richie Wellens’ men are just four points shy of Exeter in 7th. With a game in hand on each of the two teams in front of them, the Robins are certainly not out of the play-off picture, though they must continue picking up maximum points. This home match against an out-of-form Yeovil side presents the hosts with the perfect opportunity to make it three wins on the bounce.

Not many teams have gone to Gigg Lane and dominated in terms of chances created or goals scored, but that’s exactly what Swindon did last weekend, as they toppled one of the best teams in the division. Having scored three goals and posted a very encouraging 2.63 expected goals for against a top side, Wellens’ men will fancy themselves to get the better of lowly Yeovil.

Not only did Swindon win well last weekend, but they were also successful in their most recent home match, as they beat Morecambe by four goals to nil. On that occasion, they once again looked imposing going forward. At times, the Robins have flattered to deceive this season, but with the race for the play-offs really starting to hot up, they certainly seem to have hit top gear at the right time.

As for Yeovil, well, Saturday’s visitors are struggling and struggling badly. After losing four on the bounce, last weekend’s home game against Newport wasn’t exactly what the doctor ordered. Against a well-drilled side, Yeovil simply came up short in terms of overall quality. They weren’t dominated, nor did they present their opponents with abundance of chances, but they failed to do much of note going forward and were simply not competitive enough.

Not being competitive is probably the best way to describe Yeovil away from home in recent times. It’s not that the Glovers constantly get battered in terms of possession, but they fail to do much with the ball, as an average of just 0.9 goals per away game suggests, while they also fail to keep teams out when push comes to shove. Saturday’s visitors have now conceded in each of their last seven on the road and have scored in just one of those. Therein lies the problem. Expected-goals for figures of 0.96, 0.63, 0.23, 1.71, 1.05, 0.17 and 0.63 during that run also show that Yeovil have a problem creating chances as well as scoring goals on their travels.

Quite frankly, this is a huge opportunity for Swindon, who’ve conceded just once in their last five at home, to close in on the top seven, an opportunity that they’re unlikely to squander. In the betting, ‘Swindon -1 Asian Handicap’ stands out. Having really hurt each of their last two opponents, the Robins appear to be moving in the right direction, while Yeovil are seemingly heading the other way. Against a weak opponent, Saturday’s hosts are backed to win by a comfortable margin.
