Telstar vs Ajax Reserves Predictions

Telstar’s deterioration continued with a 1-0 defeat at Oss last week and the IJmuiden outfit are now without a win in eight Eerste Divisie games. Mike Snoei’s side look booked for a 16th place finish at best after achieving top six last term, and things could be tough for them again this week against defending champions Jong Ajax, who beat them 3-0 in Amsterdam earlier this season.

Telstar and NEC are the two sides who have experienced the biggest negative swing in terms of league position from the 2017/18 campaign, and things have really looked desperate for the former in recent weeks.

The IJmuiden side have lost their last three, failed to win in eight, and have just one victory to their name from their last 12 Eerste Divisie outings.

Last week’s 1-0 defeat at Oss was yet another tame effort from Mike Snoei’s side, who have regressed at a rate of knots this term after finishing 6th last season.

They are stuck in 16th at present and likely to stay there for considerably longer with seven points separating them from 17th placed Dordrecht and 15th placed NEC, so it’s hard to see how they can find any real motivation or form from here on in with nowhere to go.

Friday’s hosts have failed to win any of their last six at IJmuiden Stadion following an atrocious 0-3 hammering at the hands of RKC a fortnight ago, so it’s difficult to envisage anything but a Jong Ajax success this week.

Michael Reiziger’s men have been disappointing overall on the road this season with three wins, three draws and seven defeats posted from 13 games, but they have lost just one of their last five on their travels and fought back well to earn a 1-1 draw against in form FC Eindhoven at Jan Louwers Stadion on match day 25.

Jong have not been the most reliable team from a betting perspective this season and have largely been a shadow of the team that were crowned second tier champions in 2017/18, but they have shown glimpses of brilliance, with their 5- 1 home demolition of Roda JC two weeks ago a prime example of this.

A performance anywhere close to that standard should see them blow Telstar out of the water here as they did at Sportpark De Toekomst back in October, and we’re forecasting another comfortable success for Reiziger’s side.

With Telstar failing to score in their last three and Jong keeping clean sheets on six occasions this season, backing a win to nil for the visitors is a highly feasible option – though we’ve deterred from this due to the fact that Jong have conceded in their last half dozen league matches.

So instead, we’re supporting the favourites to triumph covering a one goal handicap, which they have managed to do in seven of their 11 victories this term. With nine of Telstar’s 14 defeats suffered by at least a two goal margin, this looks a fantastic wager and we’re also opting for a 1-3 correct score in favour of the reigning champs.
