Telstar vs AZ Reserves Predictions

16th placed Telstar have endured a torrid season following their impressive 6th place finish last term, however back to back league wins and a pair of clean sheets over the past fortnight have certainly brought some relief to under fire boss Mike Snoei. The IJmuiden outfit have another winnable fixture this Friday as they entertain 18th placed Jong AZ, although the visitors have also been on the up in recent weeks and go into this clash unbeaten in four.

Slender 1-0 victories against Dordrecht and Jong Utrecht are hardly enough to signify a turnaround for languishing Telstar considering that both of those teams are in the bottom three, but Mike Snoei’s side will be feeling much better about life going into the final ten games of the season.

They are five points behind 15th placed FC Eindhoven which makes progress in the table highly unlikely for the remainder of the campaign, but Telstar can at least hope to finish the season strongly to carry some form into next term.

Snoei’s side have been extremely reliable against their fellow stragglers towards the foot of Eerste Divisie – those aforementioned wins against Dordrecht and Jong Utrecht mean they have now won six and drawn one against sides currently below them in the standings and that run includes a 0-2 success over this week’s opponents Jong AZ in Alkmaar back in December.

That’s a key factor in assessing this match from a punting perspective, and the hosts look well priced at a touch of odds-against, despite Jong AZ’s similar recent upturn in form.

Jong are unbeaten in four after a decent 1-1 draw away to Jong Ajax on match day 28, and they have taken points from Volendam (1-1) and 4th placed Den Bosch (0-0) over the last month to go alongside a solid 1-3 win at Helmond Sport.

But Jong’s overall performances and results this term suggest that it would be surprising were that run to continue for much longer, and they were a clear second best when these sides faced off at AFAS Stadion.

With Telstar so consistent against the bottom sides and nine points better off than Jong AZ in the table, we have to support the hosts in this one at attractive odds.

This is likely to be one of the more dour fixtures on match day 29 with goals at a premium, so 1-0 is our correct score prediction in favour of the IJmuiden outfit.
