Telstar vs PSV Reserves Predictions

A double strike from the talented Terrell Ondaan gave Telstar a much needed 0-2 win over Jong AZ on Monday night, and Mike Snoei’s side will now set about trying to beat Jong PSV for the first time ever when the teams face off at IJmuiden Stadion on match day 18. The bookies can’t split the pair for this one, and we could be set for another tight contest following the 0-0 stalemate played out between the sides at the end of last season.

Telstar took full advantage of weaker opposition on match day 17 after a tough run of fixtures, and their 0-2 success in Alkmaar bumped them back up to 13th in the table with two games left to play before the Christmas break.

Mike Snoei’s side will be disappointed with the first half of their campaign considering they ended up 6th in Eerste Divisie last term, but they are just three points shy of the Play-off qualification places and a top nine finish is certainly possible if they can find a little more consistency in their results.

And that’s been the most frustrating thing for Telstar in 2018/19 so far – they’ve pulled off some great results, including 2-1 and 1-0 wins against 3rd placed Go Ahead Eagles and 5th placed Oss respectively, but they rarely manage to back up such performances the next time they turn out on the field.

Nine defeats from 17 more or less tells its own story, and you feel Snoei’s men really need to get on a mini run sooner rather than later to keep themselves well and truly involved going into the New Year.

They’ll be seeking to record consecutive league victories for the third time this term when they entertain Jong PSV this week, but history is against them as they’ve yet to get the better of Jong in ten past meetings.

Jong have won four of those with a remarkable six draws played out between the teams, and there shouldn’t be too much between them in terms of quality this Friday.

Jong are 8th in the table at present which represents a decent effort all told, but they won’t be happy with Monday night’s 1-2 reversal against Cambuur at De Herdgang.

Dennis Haar’s charges had been looking extremely solid at home with five wins and two draws gained from eight outings prior to that fixture, and they would’ve expected to land three points against the Leeuwarden outfit who had previously won just once from eight assignments on the road this term.

So confidence could potentially be dented in the Jong camp as they hit the road again this week, and the visitors are difficult to fancy all told, based on the fact they’ve failed to win six of their eight away fixtures in 2018/19.

With the hosts also making little appeal at the prices until they convince they’re able to string positive results together on a regular basis, we’re swayed towards a draw here, with those six stalemates in ten meetings hard to ignore.

Two of the last four draws have also been goalless, but our correct score prediction here is 1-1, as visitors Jong rarely fail to find the net (they’ve scored in 15 of their 17 league matches), and Telstar have been scoring one goal per game on average at IJmuiden Stadion.
