Telstar vs RKC Waalwijk Predictions

Along with FC Eindhoven, RKC have been the big movers in Eerste Divisie over the last couple of months, and Fred Grim’s side continued their tremendous form on match day 23 with an excellent 2-1 victory against 2nd placed Den Bosch at Mandemakers Stadion. The result made it eight wins in 10 league games for the Waalwijk outfit, who look great value this Friday to best a Telstar side who are without a win in six.

RKC made a fantastic start to 2019, and moved into Play-off contention a fortnight ago after notching three wins on the bounce against Oss (1-2), Jong Ajax (4-1) and Jong Utrecht (1-2).

They faced an altogether different test last week however against 2nd placed Den Bosch, and the pressure was on Fred Grim’s side to prove that they could mix it with the best teams in Eerste Divisie after being outclassed 1-3 by Go Ahead Eagles prior to the festive break.

But RKC duly obliged, and climbed up to 8th in the standings after securing a marvellous 2-1 success against The Blue White Dragons. Dylan Seys opened the scoring in Waalwijk before setting up Daan Rienstra for the second, and Grim’s men held on for the three points despite Stefano Beltrame pulling one back late on for the automatic promotion chasers.

RKC now have a two point advantage over the teams outside the Play-offs, and they look certainties to bank their place in the end of season shoot-out for Eredivisie based on current form. Additionally, RKC are in a three way tie with Twente and FC Eindhoven at the top of the Period 3 table, so they also have another avenue from which they can earn their spot in the coming weeks.

Grim’s charges will be brimming with confidence and in buoyant mood for the trip to IJmuiden this Friday, and they should be far too strong for a Telstar side who they overcame 1-0 in Waalwijk back on match day one.

Mike Snoei’s side are now without a win in six after a tame 2-0 defeat at MVV last week, and the club are stranded in 16th following that run, five points behind 15th placed NEC and nine clear of basement quartet Dordrecht, Jong AZ, Helmond Sport and Jong Utrecht.

The IJmuiden outfit are ten places and 15 points worse off than where they were at this point last term, which demonstrates just how badly they’re underachieving this season, and they go into Friday’s contest in search of their first victory at home since early November.

Therefore, it makes little sense that the bookmakers have priced this fixture up evenly, and that’s before we even factor in RKC’s dominance in recent meetings.

RKC have won five of the last six encounters between the pair, and we can only see Friday’s contest going the same way. The visitors are a team to keep well on side for the foreseeable future, and we’re recommending a three point stake on an RKC win this week, alongside a 1-3 correct score in their favour.
