The New Saints vs FC Copenhagen Predictions

TNS showed that they’ve got what it takes to tussle with some of Europe’s lesser known sides when beating KF Feronikeli in the previous round, though they’re now up against it. Beating minnows from Kosovo is one thing but getting the better of the best side in Denmark is another thing altogether. The Welshmen need a positive result in this first leg if they’re to have any hope of progressing.

Tuesday’s Welsh hosts may have come through the last leg, though they didn’t so without benefiting from a couple of sizeable slices of fortune. In the second leg especially, TNS looked very shaky. Not only did they offer a limited amount going forward, creating only 0.70 expected goals for, but they struggled big time at the back, as they presented their opponents with numerous scoring opportunities. Frankly, since they gave away no less 3.13 expected goals, they were very fortunate to win by a goal to nil.

The Welshman did do a better job on home soil, where they drew 2-2, posting 1.59 expected goals for, though they weren’t exactly sturdy at the back, conceding 1.48. If they’re not capable of being solid against a side of Feronikeli’s calibre, then stopping Copenhagen is likely to be beyond TNS.

Unlike their hosts, Copenhagen are yet to play in UCL qualifying this term, though that shouldn’t worry the visitors too much. The Danes have warmed up for this fixture by playing a couple of league matches recently, both of which they won. The fact that they kept a clean sheet against neither AGF nor Odense is slightly worrying, though the fact that they notched five goals in those two matches is positive.

Over the course of the two legs, Copenhagen should have more than enough about them to get the job done, but it’s not terribly difficult to envisage TNS competing at The Venue. In the betting, ‘Both Teams to Score’ catches the eye.

In terms of result, TNS have never done that well at home in qualifying, but they do come into this game having notched in each of their last four qualifiers at The Venue, scoring against half-decent opposition such as Rijeka of Croatia and Albanian side Shkendija. Add in the fact that Copenhagen have conceded in each of their first two league games, as well as in each of their last three away in Champions League qualifying, shipping against the likes of Qarabag, Vardar and Zilina, and backing both teams to find the net on Tuesday starts to look like a viable option.
