Tondela vs Benfica Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in five of the last seven Tondela home league games.
  • Both teams have scored in three of the last five Benfica away games in the Primeira.
  • Benfica have conceded in five of their last six games in all competitions with their opponents missing a penalty in the other.

Tondela can torment As Aguias

Benfica could snap a two-game losing skid against Tondela on Monday, but their recent form is so unconvincing that the 1/3 quote on them winning at Estadio Joao Cardoso is best swerved for now. As Aguias suffered a surprise home defeat to Gil Vicente in midweek a few days after losing the Taca da Liga final to rivals Sporting by the same 2-1 score.

The Lisbon giants have now kept only one clean sheet in their last six in all competitions and even that one – away at third-bottom Arouca – required a penalty save from Odisseas Vlachodimos to preserve. Benfica have shipped 16 goals in their last nine away games, albeit five of those were scored by Bayern Munich and six by Porto in just three games.

It should, however, give encouragement to relegation-threatened Tondela to attack Benfica from the start of Monday’s game. The hosts look much better when they are on the front foot and have tallied a respectable 13 goals in their last eight home games.

Clean sheets are a pipe dream for hosts

Tondela have scored exactly two goals in four of their last five league outings and came from a goal down to win 2-1 at Portimonense last time out. Clean sheets are still a problem – or a pipe dream – for a team that have kept only one since the opening game of the season, so the both teams to score option looks good for this matchup.

Our preferred correct score play is for a 2-1 away victory because, although Benfica have not scored more than once in their last three games, they will be able to welcome back Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez from international duty for this fixture.
