Tondela vs Braga Predictions

  • Tondela have scored in eight of their 11 home league games this season, including each of their last three.
  • Braga have failed to keep a clean sheet in five of their previous six Primeira Liga games that followed Europa League contests.
  • Both teams have scored in four of Braga’s last six Primeira Liga matches.

Auriverdes have enough firepower to bag against Braga

Tondela have conceded ten goals in their last four home games, so it’s understandable that Braga are hot favourites to win Sunday’s clash at Estádio João Cardoso. But the Auriverdes’ defence is not as bad as it would seem as they have shipped six goals more than their xG against figure and they could make it very tough for a Braga team coming off a gruelling away trip to Moldova.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side went down 2-0 to Sheriff after a contentious penalty decision and a catastrophic individual error at the back left them with nothing to show from a game they dominated. Their failure to score is a bit concerning, but the mistakes in defence will encourage a Tondela team that, with three wins and five defeats in their last eight at home, seemingly don’t settle for draws.

Pako Ayestarán’s charges grabbed a stoppage-time winner against Moreirense at the start of the year before letting a lead slip in the last few minutes against Vizela late last month. They earned BTTS backers a decent payout with a late consolation against Benfica in their last home game and look worthy of our faith in landing a similar bet again here.

Braga’s midfield options being stretched

Joao Pedro has been knocking on Ayestarán’s door for a recall and left-back Neto Borges returns from a one-match ban while the visitors are likely to freshen up in midfield as best they can with Andre Horta suspended. Braga have kept only one clean sheet in the Primeira Liga matches that have directly followed their European sojourns this season – possibly a by-product of Carvalhal continually reshuffling his defensive options.

With that likely to happen again, our confidence in a BTTS bet is relatively high and the stats point to it too with four of Braga’s last six games seeing both sides on the scoresheet. A 2-1 away win is the most appealing correct score play because Braga have lost only three away league games all season and Tondela don’t do draws.
