Toronto FC vs LA Galaxy Predictions

Toronto sit ninth in the Eastern Conference and lost 4-2 against LAFC before heading into the international break, while this weekends opponents LA Galaxy have dropped down to eighth in the Western Conference and are on a run of six MLS games without a win. The head to head record between these two clubs is very close and with both teams in poor form this game could be tough to predict, but one thing we are expecting is goals.

Toronto put up a good fight against LAFC last time out, but the superior finishing of their guests lead to a disappointing 4-2 defeat at home. Mexican international Carlos Vela put the visitors in front in the twenty-second minute with what turned out to be the only goal of the first half.

LAFC’s Uruguayan number nine Rossi set the tone after the break with the visitors second goal just two minutes after the restart, and teammate Nguyen effectively ended any hopes of a comeback in the forty-ninth minute when he made the scoreline 3-0.

American international and form Sunderland striker Altidore pulled a goal back for Toronto in the seventy-fourth minute and netted his second of the game in stoppage time to give the home fans a glimmer of hope. However, just a minute later Vela scored his brace to make the final score 4-2 to the visitors and condemn Toronto to a second defeat on the run.

Despite that defeat the return to form of Altidore could spark a late play-off chase for Toronto, though they currently sit six points behind sixth placed Montreal Impact in the Eastern Conference table. Giovinco leads the way on ten MLS goals this season for the Canadians and teammate Osorio is just one goal shy of double figures, so this weekends hosts certainly have the goals in them to put pressure on sixth place, but they must address that leaky defence.

Speaking of leaky defences, LA Galaxy shipped six goals away at Real Salt Lake and eventually lost that game 6-2, slipping down to eighth place in the Western Conference in the process. A first minute strike from Jonathan dos Santos saw LA Galaxy take the lead in Salt Lake City, but this proved to be a false dawn as goals from Rusnák and Kreilach would see the home side lead 2-1 at the interval.

Savarino made the scoreline 3-1 three minutes after the restart and just after the hour mark Kreilach scored his second of the game to end any hopes of an LA Galaxy comeback. Alessandrini did make it 4-3 shortly after, but a second goal of the game for Rusnák followed by the completion of Kreilach’s hat trick made the final score an amazing 6-2 in favour of Real Salt Lake.

LA Galaxy can have no complaints with the final score as their defending was so poor at times against Real Salt Lake, but this weekend’s visitors will be hoping that the international break provides the clean slate needed to end this six game winless run.

Ibrahimović is still the number one goalscorer in the LA Galaxy camp as you would expect, with the Swede on sixteen league goals for the season and in need of a good defensive display from his team on Sunday.

We’re confident that both teams will score in this game and that there will be over 2.5 goals during the ninety minutes, with the final scoreline being a 2-2 draw. Six of the last seven meetings between Toronto and LA Galaxy have produced over 2.5 goals, and three of those games have seen both teams score. Four of Toronto’s and four of LA Galaxy’s last six matches have seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals produced, but neither side have been able to keep a clean sheet in any of their last six league games.
