Toronto FC vs Philadelphia Union Predictions

After a fast start to the new season Toronto’s form has become hit and miss over recent weeks and on Saturday they play host to one of the MLS’ in form sides, Philadelphia Union. The visitors occupy top spot in the Eastern Conference via goal difference, but Toronto do have two games in hand over Philadelphia Union and if they win them both they will replace Saturday’s guests at the top of the pile.

Toronto took on the current MLS Cup holders Atlanta United in Georgia on Thursday, where despite the ninety minutes playing out fairly evenly the hosts scored a goal in each half to claim a 2-0 win. Philadelphia Union welcomed struggling New England Revolution to the Talen Energy Stadium last weekend, where despite the teams going in level at the break, the hosts ran out big winners. Elliot opened the scoring in the eleventh minute, but New England levelled the scores ten minutes before the break. An early goal in the second half from Ilsinho restored Philadelphia’s one goal advantage and Santos netted a brace in the space of five minutes to make it 4-1. Przybylko got on the scoreboard eighth minutes from time and Accam scored another in the eighty-eighth minute to wrap up an impressive 6-1 win for Philadelphia Union.

The recent head to head record between these two clubs favours Toronto, but the form and performances of both teams this season suggests that Philadelphia Union are in with a good chance of taking something from Saturday’s game. Toronto have lost three and drawn one of their last six matches, while Philadelphia have won four and drawn one of their last six matches. Toronto failed to score last time out against Atlanta United, and Philadelphia Union have kept two clean sheets in their last four matches. Under 2.5 goals have been scored both of Toronto’s last two and in three of Philadelphia Union’s last five matches. Toronto are unbeaten in their last seven matches against Philadelphia Union, but the visitors have picked up one win and two draws from their five away games this season. Philadelphia are the in form team of the two and have started the season brightly, but were backing a double chance bet on the visitors instead of an out and out win due to their poor recent record against Toronto.

Altidore top scores for the hosts with five goals, but is expected to miss the game through injury, while Accam moved onto four MLS goals for the season after netting Philadelphia Union’s sixth goal against New England. We’re confident that Philadelphia will pick up at least a point on Saturday so have backed the visitors with a double chance bet and for the game to end in a goalless draw. Philadelphia Union are playing really well right now, but have certainly been better at home than on the road. The recent head to head record between the pair suggests Philadelphia could struggle to win, but with just one defeat in their last six matches the visitors should at least claim a point on Saturday.
