Tottenham Hotspur vs Inter Milan Predictions

It’s been a promising pre-season campaign for Spurs, who’ve beaten both Juventus and Real Madrid and have drawn with Bundesliga champions Bayern (before winning on penalties). Such victories have allowed Mauricio Pochettino’s men to build momentum ahead of the new campaign. They’ll now be looking for one more friendly win before the Premier League season gets underway.

Spurs didn’t look great when narrowly losing to Manchester United in China, though they turned up in Germany looking very sharp. Against Real Madrid, who had no shortage of quality on the field, Mauricio Pochettino’s side looked strong in all areas; they defended well when necessary, while they were both creative and effective in the final third. Frankly, a 1-0 win didn’t do them justice; they offered considerably more than their opponents, as they registered no less than eight shots on target, six more than Real.

After such a pleasing display against Los Blancos, Spurs failed to beat Bayern in 90 minutes, though their performance was once again encouraging. Against Real, Spurs looked strong in possession, but against Bayern they showed their versatility, as they looked especially threatening on the break. Not only did they create several chances against the Bundesliga champions, but they ended the game with a shots-on-target supremacy of +3.

Inter haven’t had a terrible pre-season, but they’ve been less impressive against Spurs. While Tottenham were very much in the game against Manchester United, Inter failed to ever really land a blow when struggling against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men. Since then, the Italian outfit have drawn with both Juventus and PSG.

In their two games against the Old Lady and the French giants, Antonio Conte’s men have looked reasonably solid defensively; they conceded only once against both PSG and Juventus, but they’ve also looked somewhat limited going forward, which doesn’t exactly bode well ahead of a game against a Spurs side that continues to look creative.

As is often the case with friendlies, this isn’t the most enticing game from a betting point of view, though those looking for an angle can try ‘Tottenham to Win & Under 2.5 Goals’. Conte, Inter don’t appear to be the sort of side that’ll often receive a heavy beating, though their lack of forward penetration has been disappointing. The Italians created only 0.92 expected goals for against Man United, while they’ve not exactly improved since then, posting only 0.96 and 0.98 against Juventus and PSG respectively.

In contrast, Spurs posted 1.24 against Real, while they stepped through the gears to deliver 1.89 against Bayern. Moreover, while Inter created only 0.96 expected goals for against Juve, Spurs created 2.6. With their stronger-looking attack, Sunday’s hosts are backed to edge it.
