Tottenham Hotspur vs Sheffield United Predictions

  • Tottenham have started the season with three wins from four games, conceding only four times in the process
  • Sheffield United have scored only four goals in five matches in all competitions this term
  • James Maddison has two goals and two assists to his name in this season’s Premier League

Expect Tottenham to make home advantage count

Life after Harry Kane has been more straightforward than expected for Tottenham, who have emerged as early title contenders in this season’s Premier League.

Although only four games in, Ange Postocoglou’s men have made a strong start, winning three and drawing one of their assignments.

They opened with a 2-2 draw with Brentford before successive 2-0 wins against Manchester United and Bournemouth and an EFL Cup second-round exit to Fulham on penalties.

But Spurs saved their best performance for just before the international break, crushing newly promoted Burnley 5-2 at Turf Moor with Heung-min Son bagging a hat-trick.

That hushed critics suggesting Tottenham do not have what it takes in the final third to compete and they are shaping up nicely in the opening stages of the season.

This weekend should also represent a good opportunity for three points as they prepare to host new boys Sheffield United.

Shot-shy Blades could struggle again

The visiting Blades have picked up just one point in three games so far, leaving them hovering above the relegation zone.

Even that solitary point came against an Everton team who have also been struggling for inspiration and it is hard to see Sheffield United causing Spurs too many problems.

They have already drawn two blanks this season – against Crystal Palace in the Premier League and League One Lincoln City in the EFL Cup – and they have scored just four goals in the league this term.

There are still question marks around Tottenham’s defence but it seems to have tightened a little under Postecoglou and they can pick up an important win to nil in north London.

Tottenham have not been shy in front of goal this term, netting 11 goals in their four league matches while the fact Sheffield United shipped twice against shot-shy Everton last time out has to be cause for concern.

That contributed to a goals conceded tally of seven for Paul Heckingbottom’s men, who have looked out of their depth.

Maddison can continue strong start to season

Son’s recent hat-trick suggests he could be back in form for Tottenham, while Richarlison also got on the scoresheet recently and Maddison has made a bright start to life at the club.

Tottenham could rack up the goals, so 3-0 is a decent correct score prediction, while Maddison also looks a good goalscorer pick.

Typically on free-kick duty, the former Leicester man has scored twice and made two assists already in the league this season and can capitalise on a troubled Sheffield United defence.
