Marseille may be jaded after Benfica battles

Toulouse can take advantage of any post-Europa League fatigue in Marseille’s camp to take at least a point from Sunday’s Ligue 1 clash at Stadium de Toulouse.

Les Phoceens were taken to penalties by Benfica in their quarter-final second leg at Stade Velodrome and Jean-Louis Gasset is expected to make a number of changes after they reached the last four.

Top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang admitted he was struggling with cramps while Marseille, who snapped a five-game losing streak on Thursday, already have several first-team players out through injury.

Toulouse can take at least a point

Toulouse have a great chance to win the game and would surely be the bet to do that if they were a bit closer to the relegation zone. But les Violets moved 10 points clear of the drop zone with their 2-1 win at Rennes last weekend and may not feel as much pressure to perform.

Sometimes that can be a good thing for teams, but Toulouse’s current excellent run of results began shortly after they fell to 16th in the standings back in January. Since then, they have won seven, drawn one and lost only four Ligue 1 games – beating the likes if Champions League-contending Lille and Nice at home.

But they have kept only two clean sheets in their last 11 at home and cannot be totally trusted to take victory in this scenario even if Marseille’s awful recent domestic form suggests the visitors will not win either.
