Tranmere vs Bury Predictions

Following the postponement of Saturday’s clash due to a waterlogged pitch, Tranmere Rovers continue their run of successive tough League Two fixtures against the division’s best teams this weekend, when they welcome second placed Bury to Prenton Park.

Having come through three matches against a trio of the league’s top five teams in recent weeks, Tranmere are definitely finishing their League Two campaign the hard way, though a victory this weekend would bring their points haul from four difficult fixtures to a respectable seven points from 12 available.

Tranmere are still in with a shout of finishing in League Two’s automatic promotion places, though they will need everything to go their way if they are to claw back the four-point gap between them and Mansfield in third with just two games to play.

Rovers have finished the season in superb form at Prenton Park, winning six of their last seven League Two games there in total since the first week in February. Their most recent game there against Forest Green, brought their only defeat during that period however – and the timing was less than ideal.

Having won only two of their last seven fixtures, Bury are holding on to their runners-up spot by the skin of their teeth. Both those wins came inside The Shakers last three matches, adding much needed points to their promotion chase just as the bottom threatened to fall out of their season.

Bury’s brace of wins were both secured at Gigg Lane however, and Ryan Lowe’s men are without a win in three on the road. There is still a definite fragility about Bury away from home at present, and their only win in five attempts on their travels was a nervy 1-0 triumph at Stevenage in early March.

The Forest Green result aside, Tranmere have been flexing the muscles with consistency at Prenton Park over the past couple of months. Rovers will be desperate to sign off in style in their last league fixture of the season there, and we’re backing Rovers to take maximum points.

Only Mansfield, Crewe and Bury themselves, have better home records than Tranmere in League Two this season, and we think Rovers can capitalise on The Shakers nervousness on the road this weekend.

Following along the same lines, our correct score prediction is forecasting a 2-1 win for the hosts at Prenton Park.
