      Tranmere vs Grimsby Town Predictions

An in-form Tranmere Rovers will continue to push for promotion as they host 15th-placed Grimsby Town at Prenton Park on Tuesday. Who will take all 3 points?

Following their fantastic end to last season, that saw them win promotion to League Two, Tranmere Rovers are now building off of that success and are challenging for two promotions in a row. Rovers are currently in 5th place in the League Two table with 58 points, a mere 7 from MK Dons in the automatic promotion spots and just 3 from exiting the promotion places.

Manager Micky Mellon has done a fantastic job at the club since he took over back in 2016, and despite having a shaky start to the year, Rovers are back on track to finish the season with a chance of jumping into the divison above. The New Year’s Day fixture saw the Birkenhead side draw 1-1 with relegation candidates Macclesfield Town 3 days before crashing out of the FA Cup thanks to a 7-0 thrashing off Tottenham Hotspur. The Super White Army managed to bounce back from that defeat by beating Cheltenham Town, but 3 successive losses soon followed.

After beating Stevenage 2-0 at the start of February, the club drew 0-0 with Cambridge United, and Mellon’s side has won all 4 of their last games, as well as keeping a clean sheet in their 3 most recent outings.

After a rough 2017/2018 season, Grimsby have managed to pull away from the relegation zone this time around after last year saw the Mariners maintain their status as a professional club by a mere 5 points.

Manager Michael Jolley, who was put in charge of the club a year ago, made sure his side ended their year on a positive note, by winning all 4 of their remaining games. Grimsby struggled in the first few weeks of 2019, as they lost all 5 of their opening games, including defeats to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup and Macclesfield in the league. The club managed to overcome that slump by winning their next 4 games, and after drawing the week after, the Mariners haven’t picked up a single point in their last couple of games, losing to both Cambridge United and Crawley Town.

The league table can be deceitful at times, such is the case with this fixture. Despite being separated by a massive 10 places, only 11 points sit between these clubs. That gap is still relatively big, but Grimsby Town are only 9 points off the promotion places. A win for the visitors would certainly give them a massive boost as they push towards making it there, but Tranmere have been in fantastic form these last few weeks, whilst Grimsby have failed to win in their last 3 fixtures. We’re going to back the hosts to win to nil here, with a final score of 2-0 on Tuesday.
