Tranmere vs Lincoln City Predictions

  • Tranmere are unbeaten in five matches at home against the current bottom half.
  • Lincoln have won just one of their eight away games against the current bottom half, four of which they’ve lost.
  • Both teams have scored in seven of Lincoln’s away games against bottom-half teams.
  • Tranmere have scored in seven out of eight at home against teams that currently reside in the bottom half.

Rovers rallying

Just a few short weeks ago, Tranmere looked to be speedily heading towards relegation, though they’ve since pulled a trio of wins out of the fire, beating Shrewsbury, Accrington and Blackpool, all away from home. They’re now just three points from safety with a game in hand. This home match against a Lincoln side that has struggled on the road represents and excellent opportunity for Micky Mellon’s men to continue their ascent.

Tranmere may have a poor recent record at home, winning none of their last seven, five of which they’ve lost, but they’ve not exactly been treated kindly by the fixture list during that time. Five of their last seven opponents at Prenton Park have been from the top half. Against bottom-half opposition, Tranmere are unbeaten in their last five home matches against bottom-half opposition. Such a record bodes well ahead of a match against Lincoln, who’re very much a bottom-half outfit.

Imps poor on the road

Lincoln have got a couple of decent results of late, their draw against Gillingham was respectable, as was their win over Burton last time out, though both of those matches came at Sincil Bank. It’s been a different story for the Imps on the road.

Michael Appleton’s men are now without an away win since the first week in December. They’ve lost six of their last seven. Moreover, the Imps don’t exactly have a pleasing record against those around them, winning one, drawing three and losing four of their eight away games against the current bottom half. They have scored in each of those eight matches, which does bode well ahead of a match against a Tranmere side that isn’t big on clean sheets.

Goals for both forecast

Tranmere’s recent record against the bottom half points to them doing well in this fixture, but their overall defensive record is hard to ignore. ‘Both Teams to Score’ rates as a viable bet. Tranmere have scored in seven out of eight at home against the current bottom half, but they’ve kept just two clean sheets at Prenton Park all season long. Lincoln may struggle to win away in general, but they’ve got an impeccable scoring record against those who join them in the bottom half, scoring in each of their eight away games against such opposition. They’ve also kept just one clean sheet in those eight matches.
